MARIA JOÃO VICENTE

MARIA JOÃO VICENTE was born in Oporto in 1969. She has the Graduate Degree in Theatre – Acting by the Lisbon Theatre and Film School (ESTC) and the Master Degree in Theatre and Education by the same school, where she is a Specialist Teacher in the field of ​​Acting. She holds the title of Specialist in Theatre – Acting awarded by the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon in 2014. She belonged to the cast of the University Theatre of Porto, from 1988 to 1992, under the guidance of António Capelo. She performed in the show “The Cherry Orchard” by A. Chekhov, directed by Rogério de Carvalho, in TEAR (1989).

She taught the discipline of dramaturgy at the Contemporary Academy of Theatre in Porto. She was the coordinator of DRAMAT – Centre of Contemporary Dramaturgies of the S. João National Theatre. She directed the “Queima de Judas” shows of 2009, 2010 and 2011, in Vila Nova de Cerveira, in a partnership between Comedias do Minho and Câmara Municipal de Vila Nova de Cerveira. She has published several articles on theatre. She began her work with Teatro da Garagem in 1993 as Production Director and Actress, having participated in over 80 Company’s shows.

In 2003 she was nominated for Best Actress in the Golden Globes for her performance in “Adélia Z ” and in 2009 she was awarded the Best Actress Award from Guia dos Teatros for her performance in “On the Road, or Rainbow Hour” . She is currently the coordinator of the Portuguese Committee of the European Network for Translation of Contemporary Theatre Texts – Eurodram.
