Tales by Nelson Rodrigues

11 to 21 JAN 2018 | 9:30 p.m. | TEATRO TABORDA
The show LIFE AS IT IS here taken up in a broad set of five stories and in a cast of three actresses, Ana Palma, Inês Lago and Teresa Vaz, deepens Nelson Rodrigues’ obsession with mischievous triangulations, entangled with morbid eroticism, which accentuates the character of exhibition of desire.
The women in Nelson Rodrigues add to their voluptuousness and revenge a supernatural aura, populated by menacing monstrosities, ghostly figures of the flesh, in an allusion to magical powers, to the demonic transition between life and death. The graces of Nelson Rodrigues are therefore not only funny, they are especially dangerous, figures of annihilation and contagion, figures of divination and secret conspiracy, forbidden purposes, voodoo agents and apocalyptic return from the dead; thus, voluntarily reactionary prejudice assumed by the author.
If this peculiar way of looking at women says much more about a kind of male impotence, a frightened look of a boy lurking beneath the ladies’ skirts, which will never have grown old, surprised and crushed by the revealed origins, a genuine joy is also symptomatic, a taste of dusty comedy, a will to play and simply that.
